Michal Čihař - phpMyAdmin 3.4.0 is out

phpMyAdmin 3.4.0 is out

Today, Marc has released phpMyAdmin 3.4.0. This is huge step and introduces lot of new features. The most noteworthy are:

  • User preferences
  • Relation schema export to multiple formats
  • ENUM/SET editor
  • Simplified interface for export/import
  • AJAXification of some parts
  • Charts
  • Visual query builder

As you can see, many of new features come from last GSoC, it took us almost half year to stabilize all new stuff and make it work nicely together.

Thanks to last minute improvements in Japanese, it is fully translated to 15 languages, other translations are little behind, but you can still help improving them for future releases.

The master branch is now open to development and we will start to merge patches accumulated in patch tracker for addition after feature freeze.

PS: I forgot to mention that this release fixed largest number of feature requests and bugs ever - over 160 issues from sf.net tracker got closed. This can be nicely seen on tracker stats.

PS2: Package with new version was just uploaded to Debian.

You are sending out phpmyadmin updated to Planet Debian as well, where it's off topic.

Well, Planet Debian is not meant to include posts only about Debian:

Planet Debian aims to aggregate the blog posts of people who are active in Debian and not only to aggregate the blog posts about Debian.

Anyway, I've just uploaded package to Debian, so you can take this as an announcement of it being available in Debian :-).

I agree with the author. This post is definitely /not/ off-topic for Planet Debian.

phpmyadmin is a very popular way to manage mysql databases on...Debian servers.

I am especially interested in checking out the new theme once I find the debian package.

Ok, I upgraded with the new Debian package and there are a number of things that should be fixed:

1. The configuration file now needs a secret passphrase (blowfish_secret).
2. The user preferences database is not set up.
3. The default theme should be switched to the new theme.

The preferences database and blowfish issues are fixed in next upload, the theme is not set anywhere in the shipped config...

Thank you. The new theme is working for me by default now so we don't need to worry about that. I'm not sure why it didn't work for me before.

When will the added functionality to create stored procedures and functions?

There is GSoC project for this, so it should be part of 3.5. Will be released probably somewhere in first half of 2012.
